Tank Top and Capris
June 2015
I bought another commercial pattern for tank tops, since Project #1, my self-made tank top based on one I own, didn't work out so well.
This one came out well and fit even better. It's a little long, but I made slits in the sides. Longer is actually better for tucking in for work.
I think I did a better job with the facings this time, even though I didn't have enough fabric and had to use a different one for the facings.
The problem came with attaching the shoulder seams. The pattern instructions were really confusing, so I ended up just stitching together the outside separately from the facings. It looks like a mess, and the fronts and backs don't always align, which is annoying. They're different thicknesses, somehow, so I'll have to be more careful about that the next time.
The second project is supposed to be capris, although the pattern was for full-length pants. Looking back, I think I should've left them full length. With this fabric, they'd look better. These came out baggy and look a little odd on me. What's funny is I had the whole thing backwards while sewing it. I thought the zipper was supposed to be in the front this whole time, but it looks and fits better on the back. I also had to shorten it because it looked like the zipper was going up my butt!
I may just chop these short and make them hit around my knees. Being so short and bow-legged, these capris don't make me feel like I want to wear them :(
**Update** I wasn't happy with the way these capris looked, so I narrowed these pants considerably and shortened by about an inch. Wearing to work for Casual Friday!
