Redo of Stretch Fabric Shirt

June 2015

I decided to give this shirt another try, in case I cut the pieces wrong to create the huge neckline.  It actually came out nearly the same, but I figured out that I can just attach the front piece higher up to the sleeves, and it shrinks the neckline.  I could only do it so much before the armholes got too narrow, though.
This was my first time sewing stretch fabric.  I had been nervous about this, and my Mom used to always stay away from stretchy knits so I never bothered either.  I did some research online for tips on sewing stretch fabric and bought a walking foot online and a ballpoint needle for this job.  It took a while to figure out how to attach the walking foot onto the sewing machine, but I think I got it now.  It was surprisingly easy.

This shirt is pretty simple.  I made it using thrifted fabric.  It doesn't fray, which is great, so I didn't even bother finishing the uneven hem.  I don't really care right now.  It's super long for a shirt.  I wished it had been a little longer so that I could wear it as a dress.  I considered shortening it to a shirt but realized it makes a good cover-up after surfing or swimming.
