Composition Notebook Covers
On the heels of my somewhat disappointing luggage tags (Sewing Project #20), I've decided to attempt this composition notebook cover: http://craftycupboard.net/2013/03/composition-notebook-cover-tutorial/
I just found a pretty fabric at Savers that I think would work out well, together with some other fabrics I have around the house. I made one to see how it turns out before cutting up more fabric. I just hate cutting fabric. I'd sew a lot more if someone would just cut fabric for me.
Rather than use just the pretty floral fabric for the exterior, I thought it'd be nice with a peach binding, so I cut the two floral pieces to 6" wide, and the peach piece to 4". Turns out this wasn't wide enough. For my second cover, I expanded the peach piece to 5.5" That still might not be wide enough, but I'm just going to make my seams narrower.
I added some batting I had lying around to make a padded cover.
Below, on the right is my first cover (notably smaller than my second one). It didn't fit the standard composition notebook, so I had to just topstitch around the entire cover and find a smaller notebook to stick in there. On my second try, it fit a composition notebook better but not perfectly. It's not quite as neat as I was hoping it'd be, but it's not bad. I really like the combination of colors.
I also love that these covers have pockets. I always end with several loose sheets of paper, so these pockets are really useful for people like me.
